Yunnan province is a mountainous area, with the relative height from the mountain peaks to the river valleys in the west reaching as much as 3,000 m. The province not only is rich in natural resources and has the largest diversity of plant life in China, there are also over 600 rivers and lakes. During our field visits, we encounter many beautiful sceneries, as well as many challenges in reaching the coffee plantations. Climbing hills, where we can using our trusty 4x4, or on foot, crossing rivers, again when possible with our 4x4 and otherwise using (nearly) all means of transport the local inhabitants created.
